Stephanie Syjuco

The Counterfeit Crochet Projekt (Critique of a Political Economy)
Mo–Do 12.–15.09.2011
So 18.09.2011

The artist Stephanie Syjuco invites interested participants to produce individual designer products with the help of crochet hooks, wool and model presentations of trademark logos, for instance, of Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Fendi. Based on original images taken from glossy magazines, crochet hooks are produced which make ironic reference to the brand mania of the globalized market, the outsourced production of consumer goods, as well as the practices of piracy and the black market.

From September 12 to September 15, the artist will be holding a workshop in the WUNDERWOLL shop in the south end of town from 5 pm to 7 pm, where special fakes of handbags will be produced and subsequently presented in the exhibition “The Global Contemporary. Art Worlds After 1989.” Furthermore, the artist will offer a workshop in her installation at the opening festival on September 18, from 3 pm – 6 pm as part of the exhibition at the MNK, in which smaller items are produced and discussions held on luxury goods and their conditions of production, as well as strategies of piracy.

For additional information on the project, please see: www.counterfeitcrochet.org

The meeting points are the WUNDERWOLL shop in the south end of town (Marienstraße 77 – 79), as well as the installation “The Counterfeit Crochet Project” in the 1st floor of the MNK.

The Workshops are Free of Charge.

The documentary on the workshop is to follow shortly.
